Lil Wayne pleads to attempted gun possession

NEW YORK — In the midst of a career surge that has made him one of rap's biggest stars, Lil Wayne is bracing for a year behind bars after pleading guilty Thursday in a two-year-old gun case.
A glum Lil Wayne said little as he admitted illegally having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007, moving to end a case that had churned along as he collected Grammys and gold records. He's expected to get a year in jail at his sentencing, set for February.
The plea, which came as he boasted the country's No. 1 pop song, makes Lil Wayne the latest in a long line of rappers to face incarceration after topping the charts.

Arguably rap's most popular artist, Lil Wayne somberly answered his judge's questions with "yes, sir" and "no, sir" as he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
He acknowledged he had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun when the bus was stopped shortly after a Manhattan concert on July 22, 2007.
State Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon warned Lil Wayne that he wouldn't be able later to withdraw the plea, as some people try to do.
"I'm not one of those people," said the rapper, who sat in court in jeans and a hooded parka. He pulled up the hood and didn't speak as he left the courthouse with members of his entourage, who piled in
In March, an Atlanta judge dismissed felony drug charges against Lil Wayne. His lawyer had said the rapper wasn't staying in the hotel room where police said the drugs were found in 2006.
to four black SUVs.
The relationship between chronicling crime and living it has long been an issue in rap. Some of the genre's big names — including Tupac Shakur, Lil' Kim, Beanie Sigel, Shyne, Mystikal and C-Murder — have done a few months to several years behind bars for crimes committed after they became famous.

T.I., another of rap's top sellers, reported to a federal prison in May for his conviction on weapons charges. He's expected to serve a year and a day.

While some rappers haven't regained their chart status after prison or jail, Shakur became even more popular, and T.I. remains popular on the radio.A hearing on the method's level of scientific acceptance started Wednesday and had been expected to continue for days. After Lil Wayne's guilty plea, both prosecutors and Richman stressed that they stood by their contrasting positions on the technique.

But, Solomon said, "The issue is not going to be decided in this courtroom, in this case."

Meanwhile, another platinum-selling rapper, Ja Rule, still faces gun-possession charges stemming from his separate arrest after playing the same July 2007 show as Lil Wayne.

Tim McGraw Releases New Album, Southern Voice

Tim McGraw
released a new album, Southern Voice, on Curb Records on Tuesday (Oct. 20). McGraw co-produced the album in Nashville with longtime producer Byron Gallimore and Darran Smith, a member of his band, the Dancehall Doctors. The project includes "It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You," co-written by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Nashville songwriter Brett James. Other new country releases this week include Bomshel's Fight Like a Girl (Curb), which features the new single, "19 and Crazy," and Joe Diffie's The Ultimate Collection (Rounder), which gathers 20 of his hits released between 1990 and 2001.

All About "Tim McGraw"

Samuel Timothy "Tim" McGraw (born May 1, 1967) is an American country singer and actor. Many of McGraw's albums and singles have topped the country music charts, leading him to achieve total album sales in excess of 40 million units. He is married to country singer Faith Hill and is the son of former baseball player Tug McGraw. His trademark hit songs include "Indian Outlaw", "Don't Take the Girl", "I Like It, I Love It", "Something Like That", "It's Your Love" (featuring his wife, Faith Hill), and "Live Like You Were Dying".
As a child, Tim McGraw loved to play competitive sports, including baseball, even though he did not know his biological father was a professional athlete. He attended Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, on a baseball scholarship and became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. During his college period, he learned to play guitar and would frequently perform and sing for tips, although he claims that his roommates often hid the guitar because he was so bad.
In 1992, he had his first minor hit with "Welcome to the Club" off his self-titled debut album. Although the album failed to make much of a dent on the charts, McGraw did have two other minor hits from it in 1993, "Memory Lane" and "Two Steppin Mind."
His second album, Not a Moment Too Soon, was much more successful, becoming best selling country album in 1994. The first single, "Indian Outlaw", caused considerable controversy as critics argued that it presented Native Americans in a patronizing way.
McGraw's next album, 1997's Everywhere, again topped the country charts and reached number two on the album charts, selling 4 million copies.
In 2000, McGraw released his Greatest Hits album which topped the charts for nine weeks and sold almost 6 million copies, making it one of the biggest selling albums in the modern country market. In the latter half of the year, he and Hill went out on the Soul2Soul Tour, playing to sellout crowds in 64 venues including Madison Square Garden.
2004's Live Like You Were Dying continued McGraw's record of commercial success.
im's twelfth studio album, Southern Voice, will be released October 20, 2009 and will be lead by the single "It's A Business Doing Pleasure With You," which was shipped to radio outlets in late June 2009.
As his success has grown, McGraw has become increasingly interested in giving back to the community. When McGraw first reached fame in 1994, he established his annual Swampstock event.
McGraw, a Democrat, has stated that he would one day like to run for public office in the future, possibly for Senate or governor of Tennessee, his (adopted) home state.

How Harvey Weinstein Survived His Midlife Crisis (For Now)

A bitter struggle with Disney CEO Michael Eisner over Fahre

nheit 9/11. Miramax teetering on the brink.

A separation from his wife. A near breakup with his brother, Bob. And through it all, Weinstein seems calmer than ever. Why? He’s given up M&Ms.

I’ll just reiterate this for the record.”

It’s 8:42 on a Wednesday morning, and Harvey Weinstein is beginning his first monologue of the day. About ten minutes earlier, he greeted me in the lobby of the Stanhope Park Hyatt on Fifth and 81st by saying, “Let’s get a room.” He pointed to the hotel’s half-filled first-floor dining room by way of explanation. “That way, you know what I mean, we’ll be able to talk without worrying,” he said in a voice at once hurried, even-toned, and surprisingly high-pitched.
Weinstein is talking with me in a sixth-floor suite at the Stanhope because both his life a nd his company are very much in transition. All summer, he’d been making preparations to leave Miramax, the film company he and his brother Bob founded in 1979 and sold to to Disney for about $70 million in 1993. For the last several years, he’s been in an escalating conflict with Michael Eisner, Disney’s thin-skinned, hypercontrolling CEO, a battle characteri

zed by vicious off-the-record sniping and occasional barely hidden salvos; this past year, that conflict has erupted onto the front pages of the Wall Street Journal and both the New York and the Los Angeles Times, as Eisner publicly questioned Miramax’s profitability and Weinstein and Eisner fought bitterly over Miramax’s right to distribute Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. Recently, Weinstein began meeting with Wall Street machers and independent financiers to discuss raising money—up to $1 billion a year—to fund a slate of movies as an independent producer. Under this scenario, Bob Weinstein would remain with Disney and continue to run Dimension Films, the hugely profitable genre division within Miramax that’s responsible for the Spy Kids, Scream, and Scary Movie franchises.

Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein, CBE (Hon) (born March 19, 1952) is an American film producer and movie studio chairman. He is best known as co-founder of Miramax Films. He and his brother Bob have been co-chairmen of The Weinstein Company, their film production company, since 2005.
A character portrayed by Maury Chaykin on the HBO TV series Entourage is based on Weinstein. The character is portrayed as an intimidating and aggressive producer. Weinstein himself has reportedly responded positively to the character.

Wanted: Viewers for 30 Rock ... It's back and it's worth it

By TIM GOODMAN
TELEVISION WRITER

The opening scene in the Season 4 premiere episode of television's funniest series, 30 Rock, finds Alec Baldwin's character, Jack, seemingly addressing the audience and welcoming them to Season 4. Except the camera pulls back to reveal he's t
alking about an Asian restaurant of the same name serving up what Americans really love to eat -- hot dogs slathered in cheese and apparently fried in what looks to be a sagging pigs-in-a-blanket styled bun.
The lesson that Jack is imparting? NBC -- and the fictional TGS show that Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) oversees -- has lost touch with middle America and, because of the economy, everybody needs to reconnect with what that audience wants. Then he says, "We'll trick those race-car loving wide-loads into watching your lefty homoerotic propaganda hour yet!"

It's classic Jack -- and now classic 30 Rock -- to spoof NBC, attitudes about the show, people having said attitudes and whimsical, fear-based network television programming decisions. And doing it all with comedic brilliance. Oh, and allowing more call-backs to the original joke (as when Jack says GE is renaming its new mammogram machine "the Get-'Er-Done 2000" to better identify with regular Americans).

Welcome back, 30 Rock. Even in a season of wonderful sitcoms -- trend story alert! -- you get it done.

30 Rock is an American television comedy series created by Tina Fey that currently airs on NBC on Thursday nights. The series takes place behind the scenes of a fictional live sketch comedy series depicted as airing on NBC; the name "30 Rock" refers to the address of the GE Building where NBC Studios is located, 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The series has an ensemble cast that currently consists of 10 regular cast members, including Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander and Alec Baldwin.

This series is produced by Broadway Video and Little Stranger, Inc., in association with NBC Universal. The current executive producers are Tina Fey, Lorne Michaels, Marci Klein, David Miner and Robert Carlock. 30 Rock is produced in a single camera setup and is primarily filmed at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, Queens, New York, with some scenes filmed on location at Rockefeller Center.

The pilot episode first aired October 11, 2006,and the first season comprised 21 episodes. The second season, which premiered on October 4, 2007, was originally intended to contain 22 episodes, but was abbreviated to 15 episodes because of the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. A third season, which contained 22 episodes, premiered on October 30, 2008. NBC renewed 30 Rock for a fourth season to air during the 2009–2010 television season.

30 Rock has been a critical success, winning several major awards, and achieving the top ranking on myriad critics' year-end best of 2006 and 2007 lists. Despite these accolades, the series averaged a low 5.8 million viewers in the United States during its first season, according to the Nielsen Ratings system, and ranked 102 out of 142 television series. TV commentators[specify] have pointed out that 30 Rock is a low rated show but it has gained viewers throughout its run. Also the show has better ratings internationally, especially in Canada, Mexico, and Australia where 30 Rock has a larger following than in the United States. On July 14, 2009 the show was nominated for 22 Emmy Awards, the most in a single year for a comedy series.

On September 20, 2009 the show won its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Mýa Marie Harrison

Mýa Marie Harrison (born October 10, 1979), professionally known mononymously as Mýa, is an American R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, actress, dancer, and choreographer.

Born and raised in Washington D.C., Harrison's eponymous debut album with Interscope Records was released in April 1998, and sold over a million copies in the United States, producing the gold-certified top ten single "It's All About Me" featuring Sisqo.[1] Her second studio album, platinum-selling Fear of Flying, was released in 2000 and became a success stateside and worldwide, with lead single "Case of the Ex" becoming Mýa's breakthrough hit, reaching number-one on the Australian Singles Chart.[1] A year after, Harrison won her first Grammy Award for the worldwide number-one hit "Lady Marmalade," a cover version she recorded alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge! (2001).[1] The singer's third album Moodring was released in July 2003 stateside and eventually certified gold by the RIAA.[1] Following several label changes, Mýa's often-delayed fourth studio album, Liberation (2007), received a download-release in Japan only and led to her 2008 Japan-exclusive album Sugar & Spice.

Having expanded her career to acting and product endorsement deals, Harrison has been engaged in product endorsement deals with brands such as Coca-Cola, Iceberg, Tommy Hilfiger, and Motorola and has appeared in films such as Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004), Shall We Dance? (2004) and Cursed (2005). In 2002, she had a supporting role in the film adaptation of the 1975 Broadway musical Chicago, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award.

It was announced on August 17, 2009 that she will compete on the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars.
